Proud to celebrate 70 years of community sports at BCSC
The club was originally formed in 1952 as the sports club for the Fire Brigade in Berkshire. Over the last 70 years the club has seen many changes. Here are a few key milestones;
Pre Sonning Lane;
1946 - Reading YMCA formed a hockey club Travaux Hockey Club
formed a mens and a mixed side recruited mainly from local authority nationalised industries.

Starting at Sonning Lane;
1952 - The Berkshire Fire Brigade Sports Club opened at Sonning Lane
1950's - Travaux Hockey Club moved to Sonning Lane
mens and mixed teams

1960'2 - Berkshire County Sports Ladies Hockey Club formed
19?? - Berkshire County Sports Rugby Club formed
19?? - extension built to form new lounge bar
19?? - further extension built to add changing rooms
19?? - snooker club formed
constituted as the Royal County of Berkshire Sports and Social Club
19?? tennis courts built
1972 squash courts built
1982 Sonning Hockey Club formed
Merger the BCS Ladies HC and Travaux HC to form Sonning HC two mens teams, two ladies teams, and a mixed team.
2009 All weather astroturf pitch pitch opened by MP Theresa May
at the club Club Open Day where visitors could try out various sports including Hockey, American football, Table tennis, Football, Tennis, Rugby and Cricket.

2010 Thames Valley Vikings touch rugby affiliates to the club

2018 Squash Court Refurbishment
Opened by the Prime Minister Theresa May and received the Wokingham Borough Council Chairman’s Award for upgrading the squash courts and providing a new online booking system for easy access booking. Squash membership continues to grow and further investment and enhancement is ongoing.

2021 - Reading Renegades RFC affiliates to the club
- Pétanque piste built by volunteers
2022 - Pétanque Club formed and enters Thames Valley Sunday League
